As the holiday season rolls around, it's time to start shopping for friends and family...!
While it's fun to shop, finding the perfect something for every person on your list can be challenging. And while I love the regular run to Target, I prefer to frequent vintage, resale, or handmade goods and shops to find unique and special gift items for more special gifts. I do this mainly for people I know who appreciate more sustainable, thoughtful gifts.
Considering it's the time of year for everyone to be in shopping mode, here are a few of our favorite online places to snag that perfect gift:
For people that love boho anything, artistry, and hidden gems.
Definitely a favorite go-to for gathering gifting ideas and searching for anything hand-crafted. They have everything under the sun in a convenient one-stop shop as a marketplace for individuals to sell either handmade or vintage goods. I gravitate towards Etsy for its vintage selection because it is massive and full of special and unique items.
Etsy also curates excellent gift guides if you're stuck without any ideas!
For people in your life who love to sparkle and shine.
As the country starts to open up, putting on jewelry makes sense again. Ana Luisa designs timeless jewelry created from recycled materials and is a carbon-neutral accessory store, so your purchase is less harmful to the planet. They have beautiful, dainty jewelry that goes with everything, and also jewelry makes a great present at the holidays, but it's also a great way to say thank you to yourself for just bein' you.
For the ones that love to be cozy and comfy or just need some new basics.
As the weather gets colder, we all love a cozy night at home. So the gift of a cozy, comfy PJ or lounge set is always a solid option. Mate the Label offers various loungewear silhouettes in a fun color collection of pastels and basics. Their products are made from natural and/or organic materials and avoid many chemicals and dye substances found in many clothes, so you can lounge in comfort.
For those friends that love to entertain and homebodies.
The Little Market is a perfect place to shop for the people in your life who love home decor and kitchen accessories. The Little Market is a nonprofit organization that sells fair trade items made by artisan groups in underserved communities worldwide. They also have fun apothecary items if you like giving (or receiving) spa-themed gifts or just want to snag a delicious-smelling candle.
For the green-thumbed plant lovers in your life.
Indoor plants have gained massive popularity over the past few years, especially as we spend more time in our homes. It seems like everyone has at least one friend who can't get enough of them. The Sill is an online nursery that ships live plants and other potting accessories. So if you have a friend in another city, you could ship them a plant, and it can be a unique and fun present. Also, if you are a plant novice, the website thoroughly explains the different benefits of each plant and how to care for them.
Local Stores
For anyone, really, but especially those that love to support local communities!
Don't overlook the local stores in your area. Often shops will have a curated selection of gifts, and they are always excited to help you figure out that perfect item. If you are new to an area and aren't sure where the unique gems are, I find local publications will have features and highlights on some great options. Also, following local social media influencers is an excellent way to acquaint yourself because they may have collaborated with their favorite boutiques.
These are just a few ideas to get you going. I hope everyone will find some time to shop their local consignment stores and boutiques and maybe some of the stores we've shared above.
We'd like you to use this holiday shopping season as an opportunity to explore new and unique sources for fun gifts. Find local and online stores that you are excited and passionate about and that you want to support. This will allow you to keep the holidays the most wonderful time of the year and delight your friends and family while you're at it!
